Privacy Policy

  1. Introduction 
  • The Hexagon Trust IT 1526/87 (the Trust) is a non-profit organisation with the principle object of improving access to education and education facilities in South Africa.
  • The Trust acknowledges that, while collecting, storing and processing User data is a necessary element of the work of the organisation, it also recognises the importance of protecting personal information of individuals who use https://www.hexagontrust.org/ (‘the Site’) and connected services of the Hexagon Trust (‘Users’).
  • The Trust is committed to safeguarding and respecting the privacy and information of Users of the Site.
  • This Privacy Policy explains how User information, including personal information (‘User Data’) will be processed and procedures in place to safeguard the privacy of Site Users.
  1. Information collected 
  • The Trust will collect and retain User Data when Users call, email or use the services of the Hexagon Trust including the Site. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • When Users engage in the communication channels of the Hexagon Trust or leave questions, queries, feedback or other responses in any manner on the Site;
    • When Users provide information for the purpose of registering and accessing services of the Trust for that purpose;
    • Information about the use of the Site; and
    • Information that the User provides for the purpose of subscribing to the Site’s services.
  1. Processing information 
  • In conducting the business of the Trust, the Trust may disclose User Data to donors, consortium partners and subcontractors for purposes directly or indirectly related to the service of the principle object of the Trust.
  • The Trust will collect and process User data, and endeavour to use said User data:
    • for communicating with Users via email, telephone or other form of physical or electronic communication to the extent necessary where Users have consented to use for this purpose;
    • to prevent potentially prohibited or illegal activities and enforce the Hexagon Trust’s Terms of Use;
    • To improve User experience of the Site;
    • To protect a legitimate interest of Users and
    • to protect the rights, property or safety of the Hexagon Trust and others.
    • User Data may be distributed to third parties who collect standard internet log information and details of User engagement with the Site in terms of this Privacy Policy.
  1. Cookies 
  • The Site uses Cookies, including:
    • Strictly necessary cookies essential for use of the Site by the User;
    • Performance cookies used to collect information about how the User interacts with the Site; and
    • Functionality Cookies to remember choices made by the User and enhance the features of the Site.
  • Cookies may be used to process inter alia the following User Data:
    • Site pages visited by the User;
    • The amount of time spent by the User on each page;
    • The type of device and browser used;
    • How the User accessed the Site.
  1. Protecting information
    • The Trust endeavours to take all technical and organisational precautions as required by law to prevent the loss, misuse or alteration of User Data.
    • All User Data is processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 and accompanying regulations.
  1. Consent of the User 
  • By using the Site, Users acknowledge and confirm:
    • that they are over the age of 18 or acting with the consent of the User’s parent or guardian;
    • that the transmission of User Data over the internet is inherently insecure and that the Trust cannot guarantee the security of User Data beyond their legal obligations;
    • That the User will maintain responsibility for maintaining the confidentiality of any and all passwords;
    • that the withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
  1. Student Users 
  • Through registering on the Site, and/or submitting an application, Student Users consent to the processing, including the publication of, personal information including but not limited to their name and photographs on the Site and Hexagon Social Media pages for the purpose of marketing.
  • This consent may be withdrawn by submitting a formal written notice of withdrawal in writing to the Hexagon Trust.
